Roofing, Siding & Remodeling in Chatham, MA

Best Deal Home Group does roofing, cedar siding, windows and remodeling for homes in Chatham, North Chatham, South Chatham and West Chatham. Working in Chatham

What Chatham homes need from a contractor

Few Cape towns take weather like Chatham. Nor'easters come straight off the Atlantic, and homes on Pleasant Bay, Stage Harbor and Oyster Pond get salt spray most of the year. On these houses the roof system underneath the shingles, the flashing and the fasteners decide how a roof holds up.

More than half of Chatham's homes are seasonal, and most were built between 1950 and 1999, according to the town's 2025 housing profile. Many are now at the age where roofs, windows and decks come due at the same time, which makes a single, well-planned exterior project worth considering.

Chatham's conservation rules are among the strictest on the Cape. The Chatham Wetland Protection Bylaw covers land within 100 feet of wetlands, banks, beaches, dunes and flats, and the Conservation Commission's floodplain rules restrict new structures and footprint expansions in V and Coastal A flood zones. We check the flood zone and resource areas before design starts.

FAQ

Questions from Chatham homeowners

Does Chatham have a historic district for houses?

Chatham's design review is the Historic Business District Commission, which covers the commercially zoned districts, mostly along Main Street and Route 28. Most residential neighborhoods are outside it, but the Chatham Historical Commission still reviews demolition of significant older buildings townwide. Chatham is not part of the Old King's Highway district.

Can I expand my house in a Chatham flood zone?

Chatham's Conservation Commission floodplain rules restrict new structures and footprint expansions in V and Coastal A flood zones, so additions on low-lying waterfront lots are limited. Work within an existing footprint, such as a roof, windows or siding, is usually still possible with the right filings. We check the flood map for your lot first.

What roof holds up best in Chatham's wind?

The installation matters more than the brand. We use high-wind nailing patterns, ice and water shield at the eaves and valleys, new flashing at every wall and chimney, and stainless or hot-dipped fasteners near the water. Cedar and architectural asphalt both perform well when installed this way.

How do I get a building permit in Chatham?

Permits are issued by the Chatham Building Division on George Ryder Road and filed through the town's online OpenGov portal. We file every permit and schedule the inspections for our projects.
