Waterfront and water-view decks with composite or PVC boards, stainless fasteners and railings chosen for the view, permitted and built to code.
- Deck Building in Sandwich
Sandwich is the oldest town on Cape Cod, and the area along Route 6A falls inside the Old King's Highway Regional Historic District.

Mid Cape
- Deck Building in Barnstable
Barnstable is our home town: our office is on Goose Point Road in Centerville.
- Deck Building in Yarmouth
Yarmouth Port, on the north side, is part of the Old King's Highway Regional Historic District and has many antique homes where trim and window details matter.
- Deck Building in Dennis
Dennis runs from Cape Cod Bay to Nantucket Sound, so houses on both shores get heavy salt exposure.
Lower Cape
- Deck Building in Brewster
Decks and porches for wooded lots, built in composite, PVC or hardwoods that handle shade and damp better than standard lumber.
- Deck Building in Harwich
Decks, porches and stairs in TimberTech, Trex, PVC or hardwood, with railings and hardware chosen for salt air and a structure that is permitted and built to code.
- Deck Building in Chatham
Chatham sits at the elbow of the Cape and takes the brunt of nor'easters coming off the Atlantic.
- Deck Building in Orleans
Rear decks and porches on Pleasant Bay and Nauset homes, planned with the 100 foot buffer zone in mind and built to stand up to salt air.
Outer Cape
- Deck Building in Eastham
Decks in composite, PVC or hardwood that can sit through an Outer Cape winter, planned within the Seashore District and conservation limits.
- Deck Building in Wellfleet
Wellfleet has a lot of seasonal and second homes that sit empty part of the year, so small roof or flashing leaks can go unnoticed for months.
- Deck Building in Truro
Decks and stairs on dunes and slopes, built in materials that handle sun, salt and sand, and permitted within the conservation buffer.
- Deck Building in Provincetown
Provincetown has dense, older housing stock and its own historic district commission, so exterior projects often involve careful repair of original trim, clapboard and shingles.
Who reviews exterior work on the Cape
Old King's Highway Regional Historic District
Along Route 6A the regional historic district reviews exterior changes that can be seen from a public way, through a committee in each member town. Many towns issue faster exemption certificates for common, like-for-like work.
Sandwich, Barnstable, Yarmouth, Dennis, Brewster, Orleans
Cape Cod National Seashore
On the Outer Cape, land inside the National Seashore follows its own zoning rules on top of the town bylaws, which can limit how much a house grows.
Eastham, Wellfleet, Truro
Local historic districts
Several towns have their own historic district commissions with guidelines for roofs, siding, windows and porches inside the district lines.
Falmouth, Mashpee, Barnstable, Dennis, Harwich, Eastham, Provincetown
Conservation Commission
Work near wetlands, ponds, marshes or the shore can need an Order of Conditions or another sign-off from the town's Conservation Commission before it starts.

What homeowners say on Google
“BDHI renovated our basement into livable space, built an office, rebuilt our deck, reshingled, as well as many other projects. After procuring several estimates theirs was the most detailed, clear and fairly priced.”
“His crew arrives on time, are courteous, clean up every day and do beautiful work. We could not be happier with the results of the new cedar shake siding, portico over garage doors, custom IPE trellis and Mahogany wind wall under the deck and steps.”
“Attention to detail was great. My husband is hard to please and he was more than satisfied with the stairs built down to our beach. New roof looks great. No mess was left behind.”
How we handle decks
A deck is one of the best investments you can make in a Cape Cod home. It extends your living space outdoors and, if built right, adds real value to your property. We build with pressure-treated lumber, composite decking (TimberTech, Trex), and PVC, each with its own strengths depending on your budget and how much maintenance you want to do.
Every deck we build is properly permitted, structurally engineered for Cape Cod's freeze-thaw climate, and built to last.

FAQ
Deck Building in Barnstable County, MA: common questions
Do you do deck building in every town on Cape Cod?
Yes. We work in all 15 towns of Barnstable County: Barnstable, Bourne, Brewster, Chatham, Dennis, Eastham, Falmouth, Harwich, Mashpee, Orleans, Provincetown, Sandwich, Truro, Wellfleet and Yarmouth.
What permits does deck building need in Barnstable County?
A new or rebuilt deck needs a building permit with footing and framing details, and work near wetlands, ponds or the shore also goes through the Conservation Commission. Each of the 15 towns runs its own building department, listed on this page.
What decking lasts longest in Cape Cod's salt air?
Capped composite boards such as TimberTech and Trex and all-PVC boards hold up best near the ocean because they do not rot, splinter or need staining. Pressure-treated wood costs less up front but needs cleaning and sealing every one to three years. The framing underneath should use hardware rated for coastal exposure.
Can you replace the deck boards and keep the frame?
Sometimes. If the joists, beams, ledger and footings are sound and properly attached, new decking and railings can go on the existing frame. We check the ledger connection and the condition of the framing first, because new boards on a weak structure is money spent in the wrong place.
