Basement Remodeling & Finishing town by town
Upper Cape
- Basement Remodeling & Finishing in Bourne
Bourne sits on both sides of the Cape Cod Canal, so homes deal with wind off Buzzards Bay and Cape Cod Bay.
- Basement Remodeling & Finishing in Sandwich
Sandwich is the oldest town on Cape Cod, and the area along Route 6A falls inside the Old King's Highway Regional Historic District.
- Basement Remodeling & Finishing in Falmouth
Basements finished into bedrooms, offices, half baths and entryways, with moisture handled first and a new staircase where the old one is unsafe.
- Basement Remodeling & Finishing in Mashpee
Mashpee has a large share of newer homes and seasonal properties around New Seabury and Popponesset.
Mid Cape
- Basement Remodeling & Finishing in Barnstable
Basements turned into bedrooms, offices and guest suites with full baths, in the capes and colonials that make up most of the town.
- Basement Remodeling & Finishing in Yarmouth
Yarmouth Port, on the north side, is part of the Old King's Highway Regional Historic District and has many antique homes where trim and window details matter.
- Basement Remodeling & Finishing in Dennis
Dennis runs from Cape Cod Bay to Nantucket Sound, so houses on both shores get heavy salt exposure.
Lower Cape
- Basement Remodeling & Finishing in Brewster
Brewster is entirely within the Old King's Highway Regional Historic District, so most visible exterior work needs to go through the local committee.
- Basement Remodeling & Finishing in Harwich
Harwich Port and West Harwich face Nantucket Sound, where summer cottages and year-round homes sit close to the water.
- Basement Remodeling & Finishing in Chatham
Chatham sits at the elbow of the Cape and takes the brunt of nor'easters coming off the Atlantic.
- Basement Remodeling & Finishing in Orleans
Orleans is the gateway to the Outer Cape and part of it lies in the Old King's Highway Regional Historic District.
Outer Cape
- Basement Remodeling & Finishing in Eastham
Eastham borders the Cape Cod National Seashore, and many homes are year-round capes and ranches with exposure to wind from both the bay and the ocean side.
- Basement Remodeling & Finishing in Wellfleet
Wellfleet has a lot of seasonal and second homes that sit empty part of the year, so small roof or flashing leaks can go unnoticed for months.
- Basement Remodeling & Finishing in Truro
Truro is one of the most exposed towns on the Cape, with houses on high dunes and open ground.
- Basement Remodeling & Finishing in Provincetown
Provincetown has dense, older housing stock and its own historic district commission, so exterior projects often involve careful repair of original trim, clapboard and shingles.
What homeowners say on Google
“Amazing work at our house in Falmouth. Finished 2 rooms in basement, added entryway and half bath. Built from scratch beautiful staircase replacing old dangerous spiral staircase. DJonathan is an excellent communicator, sent us weekly video updates.”
“BDHI renovated our basement into livable space, built an office, rebuilt our deck, reshingled, as well as many other projects. After procuring several estimates theirs was the most detailed, clear and fairly priced.”
How we handle basement finishing
Most Cape Cod homes have unfinished basements that are used for storage and nothing else. That's some of the most underutilized square footage in the house. A finished basement can become a family room, a home office, a guest suite, a gym, or all of the above.
We handle framing, insulation, drywall, flooring, electrical rough-in coordination, and finish work, turning that concrete shell into a space your family will actually use.

FAQ
Basement Remodeling & Finishing in Barnstable County, MA: common questions
Do you do basement remodeling & finishing in every town on Cape Cod?
Yes. We work in all 15 towns of Barnstable County: Barnstable, Bourne, Brewster, Chatham, Dennis, Eastham, Falmouth, Harwich, Mashpee, Orleans, Provincetown, Sandwich, Truro, Wellfleet and Yarmouth.
What permits does basement remodeling & finishing need in Barnstable County?
Finishing a basement needs a building permit, and the electrical and plumbing work is permitted separately by the licensed trades. If the new space adds a bedroom, the septic system has to be sized for it under the state's Title 5 rules. Each of the 15 towns runs its own building department, listed on this page.
Can every Cape Cod basement be finished?
Most can, but moisture has to be dealt with first. If the basement takes on water, has standing puddles or stays damp, the source needs to be fixed through grading, gutters, crack repair or drainage before anything is finished. Ceiling height and egress for any bedroom are the other two things we check.
What flooring is best for a basement?
Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) and tile are the safest choices because they are not damaged by occasional moisture. Carpet can work in a dry basement with a proper subfloor. Solid hardwood is not recommended below grade.
